Free Fiction Class: Getting to Know Your Characters

March 21 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Attention Queens writers—both experienced and new-to-writing: free creative writing classes taught by the best in Queens!

Newtown Literary Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting prose and poetry in Queens, in partnership with Lewis Latimer House Museum, is offering free creative writing classes.

Our next class will be led by Stephanie Jimenez on Saturday, March 21st from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the Lewis Latimer House Museum located at 34-41 137th St in Flushing:

Getting to Know Your Characters

We all want to create memorable characters, but first we need to know who our characters are. In this course, we’ll discuss how to create vivid characters that jump off the page by looking at what unforgettable characters all have in common and how to craft your own. Together, we’ll also discuss how knowing the ins and outs of your character will improve all aspects of your creative writing, including the development of a plot that will keep readers invested and engaged. We’ll look at the work of Jamaica Kincaid, Sandra Cisneros, and Jade Sharma.

This program is in partnership with Lewis Latimer House Museum and made possible, in part, with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, as well as with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
